«La Serra de Tramuntana, abans i després» is a re-photography project by the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium to visualise the human imprint on the natural and cultural heritage.
Photographer Lluc Julià has selected several representative places located within the World Heritage territory of the Serra de Tramuntana that appear in the publication of Die Balearen, the most important 19th-century work of manners in the Balearic Islands, written by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria; and based on these illustrations, he has placed himself in the exact spot and perspective from which they were drawn in order to reproduce them in today's environment.
«La Serra de Tramuntana, abans i després» is also part of the dissemination project “The Balearic Islands, before and after” which has been carried out since 2002 by the content designer Lluc Julià Fàbregues based on the engravings of the work Die balearen in Wort und Bild Geschildert (The Balearic Islands described by word and image), by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria (1847-1915) to compare the state of conservation of the cultural heritage and the evolution of the landscape of the Balearic Islands between the end of the 19th century and the 21st century.
A comparative photography project such as this one also serves to provide the public with a tool to become aware of how the landscape has changed over the years in an understandable and attractive way.
