Andratx: from s’Arracó to La Trapa

The valley of s'Arracó gathered some farmhouses and was not configured as a village until the sixteenth century, around a chapel. Modernist architecture can be found, built by wealthy emigrants.

In the direction of the cemetery and the neck of sa Palomera, you can follow the old road that passes the neck des Cairats and undertakes the climb along the path of La Trapa. Past the neck of the same name, there is the valley of Sant Josep, where some Trappist monks fleeing the French Revolution founded a modest monastery in 1810, eventually abandoned.

In la Trapa, owned by the environmental group GOB, there are some large terraces, a spring mine, a well, gutters and washing places that allowed the monks to make agricultural use. Rehabilitation work is currently underway. The estate preserves charcoal makers' huts, lime kilns, threshing floors and a very interesting flour mill.Today it is a natural sanctuary for hikers.

Return to the path until a curve to the rigtht where we turn left following the GR 221. The path climbs and reaches the highest point of the route (450 m) where it is worth turning left to the Josep Sastre viewpoint, from where you can enjoy views of the island of Dragonera.

Return to the crossroads, continue along the GR in the direction of s'Arracó and, shortly afterwards, you can admire the impressive panoramic view of the Tramuntana coast that stretches as far as the Port of Sóller and Puig Mayor. After the descent, you reach the house of ses Bases and, a few minutes later, you leave the main GR route and go to the right along the GR 221.1. This variant takes us back to s'Arracó, passing through numerous broken, poor farmlands far from the possessions that bear witness to the harsh existence of our ancestors.

The only sections of the Ruta de la Pedra en Sec GR 221 open and signposted in Andratx are sections 1, which goes from the coll de sa Gremola to la Trapa, and the s'Arracó variant. All the updated information can be found at:
